THE INVALIDED SOLDIERS.
MANY REMARKABLE ESCAPES. (Received 30, 9.50 a.m.) Sydney, May 30. Amongst the returned war invalids is Scrong, a Q leenslander, who had o remarkable escapa. A Mauf-er bullet went clean through his body, penetrating the stomach and liver, and just missing the spine. At the tiraa he received the wound a party of Q'leensianders were retiring before a large body of the enemy. Trooper Thompson gave Strong a d.ink and led his horse for over a mil; under heavy fire. Oorporal Owens, of the New South Wales Mounted Rifles, received four bullets in his haversack before being badly wounded in the hip. He took refuge in a jackal hole. Sergts. Mcintosh and Birham roda back under a heavy fire and rescued him. Adelaide, May 30. The invalided soldiers were publicly welcomed in the Town Hall, and they had a great reception in the streets. (Received 31,1.20 a.m.) Sydney, May 30. The Agent-General has cabled that Lloyd's Patriotic Fund has handed him £IOOO as a preliminary grant to the New South Wales troops disabled and wounded in the war.
