THE HISTORY OF A CHEQUE.
(Received 29, 9.45 a.m.) Melbourne, May 29. A melancholy history attaches to a cheque which has been returned from South Afiica. The cheque was sent by the backers of the Victorian officers at Capetown to Captain Salmop, who banded it to Lieutenant Roberts just before the latter was mortally wounded. It was then returned to Captain Salmon, who died of fever, Next it came into the possession cf Surgeon-Captain Hopkins, who also died of fever,
