BELL BLOCK.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) On Tuesday night the Church of England concert came off, and a great success it was. At least 350 people were present, and as that far exceeded the number expected, no one could have been surprised if supplies had run short, but the piles of delicacies seemed inexhaustible, and reflected great credit on the ladies who looked after that department. The hall had been decorated with great taste, and a stage had been improvised by Messrs. Foote and White. The programme wag excellent, and numerous encores were given, the items by Miss Holdsworth, Mr. Bennett, and the Maoris being especially appreciated, but everything was good. The programme was as follows: Tableau (all nations), song by Rev. Bennett; song, Miss Holdsworth ; recitation, Rev. Rawnsley; comic song, Mr. Cowie; song, Miss Bayley; song, Mr. Cornwall; song, Rev. Bennett; Maori hymn, young Maori party; overture, Miss Giddy; tableau, Japanese Tea Party; song, Mrs. Hoby; recitation, Mr. Spence; song, Rev. Evans; song, Miss Furlong; song, Mr. Dixon; Maori hymn, young Maori party; song, Mr. Cowie; quartette, Rev. Bennett, Mrs. Bennett, Miss Park, and Mr. Waitai. As the expenses were small, almost everything being done as a labour of love, a good sum will be realised, and the Committee are to be congratulated on the result. The following ladies and gentlemen were very conspicuous: —Mesdames Cornwall, Potts, Bennett, Hoby, Misses Street (2), Cornwall, Kelly, Hoby, and Messrs. Colson, C. Street, Downes, Waitai and Foote. The Rev. Mr. Evans (the Vicar) occupied the chair. i
