During the last twelve days the number of carcases of frozen mutton and lamb handled at Ly ttelton amounted to the enormous total of 231,919, in addition to 904 quarters of beef and several hundred boxes of kidneys and sweetbreads, Carcases of mutton and lamb to the number of 187,946 were placed on board the Shaw, Saville & Albion steamers Gothic and Afric, the former of which took 89,223 and the latter 9(5,723 as cargo and 8000 as stores. The loading of these two vessels was done in about nine and a-half days—no rue m performance in sieveloring. On oca day, Saturday last, no fewer than 26,000 carcases were pu> into the Afric. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamship Whakatanq took in 43,673 carcases of mutton and lamb, and is also to be credited with 326 out of the 904 quarters of beef shipped.
