TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD.
The Education Board met on Wednesday. Present: Mr. D. McAllum {Chairman), Miss Hey wood, Messrs. Adlam, Wade, Mackay, Allswortb, Kennedy, Faull, and Eignett,
The Bell Committee called attention to the fact that the interior of the Upland Road school had not been painted as they expected. They are to Ibe informed that no mention of painting was made in their application, and therefore was omitted from the contract.
The plan of the proposed infant school at Stratford was referred to Messrs. Allswortb, Mackay, and Kennedy for their report, after consulting with the Committee.
| The question of a faulty chimney and leaky roof at the Central School was referred to the Architect.
The Chairman s action in regard to the outbuildings at Frankley Boad was approved, and the attention of the Committee is to be specially drawn to the insanitary surroundings of the school, as mentioned in the Inspector's report, and an explanation asked for. The Architect is to report on the requirements of the Frankley Road school.
Mr, J. 0. Bell wrote requesting that, the Board would have the practice of feeding off the grass in the Pukearuhe school paddock stopped.—The letter was referred to the Commissioner for his report. The resignation of Mr. F. J. Cumborworth as teacher at Ngaire was accepted as from 18th April. The Inspector's report oaths Opunake school was held over until after his forthcoming visit. Mr. Adlam was requested to report on the application of the Opunake Committee for an enlargement of the school and residence.
The application of the Mapgaere Committee for a cadet was referred to the Inspector for his report.
The teacher of the Norfolk Road School wrote in reply to the Board's resolution that application for requisites should come through the Committee, stating that the Chairman lived moro than three miles from the school, and that it; was not convenient for bim (the teacher) to go to the Chairman whenever he had a letter to forward to the Board. He again enumerated tho requirements. —The Board directed the letter to be acknowledged, and that the teacher be referred to their previous decision.
The Chairman of the Whaogamomona School Committee wrote, stating that the Committee considered the examination a farce, as sufficient time was not given. He also pointed out several matters in connection with the examination and tfte marking to which exception was taken, —The Tetter was referred to the Inspector.
The attention of the committees interested in the sites mentioned in the Ranger's report is to bj drawn to the remarks therein. The boundaries of the Huiroa and Tututawa districts as suggested in Mr. Kennedy's report were adopted, and ho was thanked for the trouble taken in the matter.
The Architect was instructed to prepare plans and specifications for the erection of schools at Tututawa, Puniwhakau, Pohokura, and Upper Whangamomona.
Mr. Alls worth was empowered to deal with the question of supplying wire and staples for fencing at Lower Whangamomona. In reply to the suggestion of the Teachers' Institute that a week's holiday be given between the midwinter and the Christmas holidays, the Institute is to be informed that the matter will be considered in connection with the intended revision of regulations. I The question of removing the Wortley Road School to a site at> the junction of the Richmond and Lincoln Roads was referred to the architect. Accounts amounting to £l2lß 19s 8d (ordinary) and £127 Is (building) wore passad. The Board rose.
