CRUELTY IN SHEEP-SHEARING.
[PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, March 20. Recently it was reported that in the up-country stations during the sh<-ep-shearing season animals were roughly treated by shearers. At to - day's meetiDg of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, confirmation of these repot tg was received, and thrl owner of one large lun on the Eafet' Ooast declared that a suggestion that the Inspector of the Society be sent through the country at shearing time was a step in the right direction, and he offered eve r y assistance. The questiui as to whether an Inspector will j vihit the dis'ricts will be decided at the nexfc meeting.
