THE PLAGUE.
SUSPICIOUS CASES IN SYDNEY AND ADELAIDE. [Br Electric Telegraph.—Copyright ] [PBB PRESS ASSOCIATION.] (Received 20, 9.30 a.m. Sydney, March 20. A suspicious case is that of a woman named Moore, living in Kent-street. Another case at Randwick has been quarantined. The report of a plague case at the hospital is baseless. Adelaide, March 20. Some consternation was caused by the death of a man named Grubb at the Adelaide hospital. The Supposed cause of death was plague. The hospital doctors state that there have been at least five suspected cases of plague in the institution. All proved fatal. Members of the profession outside are sceptical, and point out that there has been no case anywhere else in the colony. The man Grubb came from Tasmania, staying a day at Melbourne en route. He was admitted to the hospital on the 9th and died la6t Friday. The body was buried in the usual way. It was not until after a post mortem had been held that the hospital doctors came to the conclusion that the case was one of plague. At the order of the Premier the body was re-buried with the usual precautions on the quarantine ground. The Government has ordered a full enquiry into the case. Received 20, 6 p.m. Sydney, March 20. The Randwick plague patient is Heaton, a member of a well-known family. His relatives had previously undergone inoculation, but the victim declined the operation. Another case at Readington, a board-ing-house keeper in Margaret-street, in the city, was reported this afternoon. (Received 21,1.20 a.m.) Sydney, March 21. Another case of plague is reported, this time at Paddington, the sufferer being a youth named Pepper. As a precaution against the spread of the plague at coastal ports, no vessel will be allowed to leave Sydney unless thoroughly fumigated. The health authorities have appointed a batch of special sanitary inspectors. Eight hundred and fifty were inoculated to-day.
