THE SURRENDER OF CRONJE'S FORCE.
(Received 1, 10 a.m.) London, February 28. The Queen and the Princess Louise have sent spirited congratulations to Canada. The Kaiser has congratulated the Queen. Melbourne, March 1. The city was decorated with flags in honour of Lord Roberts' victory. The Governor, replying to Sir Alfred miner's congratulatory cable, said he was proud of the honour of sharing in the glory of the success of the great k soldier who has splendidly crownei a life of signal service to the Empire and wiped out a shameful blot which stained the record of nineteen years ago. Adelaide, March 1. Gronje's defeat was signalled by the pealing of bells. Brisbane, March 1. A salute of 21 guns was fired in honour of Lord Roberts' victory. Auckland, March 1. The Governor has sent the following cables:—One to Sir A. Milner: " Delighted at news; everyone rejoicing; two contingents leaving in March." To Mr.Chamberlain: "New Zealand sends congratulations to Mother Country of Lord Roberts' splendid achievement." To Major Robin: " New Zealand proud of way you and your boys have done your duty."
