OTAGO DREDGING OPERATIONS.

[PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, March 1. The extension of dredging operations in Otago and Southland has caused the Government to be inundated with claims for compensation by land owners along the river banks. The total claims now in the hands of the authorities amount to close upon a quarter of a million. Commissioners have been appointed to enquire into and report upon these claims, but their commission h»n not yet been issued. This will be done in a few days, and it is expected that the report will be ready for submission to Parliament when it muwmhipn
