THE CENTRAL SCHOOL.

l It must be very gratifying to the head . master, the staff and pupils of the i Central School to find that, notwith- '■ standing the many difficulties arising i from epidemics and other causes, the i Inspector's examination report show? I such good results tins year. We be- , litve it is one of tho best, if not the best, the school has yet obtained, and this, in face of such difficulties, reflects the greatest credit on those who li»vihad charge of tho institution. We have bo;n peimitttd to cull the following remarks from tho report:— ;l Thi. work of tho year had been much broken by sickness among both teachers and scholar*, and, this f net being taken into ' consideration, tha result* of tho examination wuro most satisfactory, indeed—under tha circumstances surprisingly so. Tho quality of the work showed that tho teachers had worked earnestly and well, and that tli9 methods, on the whole, had been on intel igent lines. In the school, as a whole, the discipline and manners were excellent, and tht: pupils were sttontive and. obedient." Of the Infant Department, Cour-tecay-slreet, the Inspector says:— " This department, under Miss Arrow 1 and two pupil teachers, had been well conducted, and much of the work was ! ' very good.' The discipline, manners and alacrity were ' very good,' singing was ' very good,' and the exercises were performed with precision." This is very pleasant reading. Moreover, we understand that the general work 1 of the school is going on splendidly, the tone and earnestness of the children ; foreshadowing a, very successful year, 1 s& that, if nothing occurs to interfere with the work, brilliant results may be anticipated.
