A scintiallating century by Wallace paved the way for New Zealand to secure a good position over Somerset, the tourists making 404. Lamason approached nearer his true form with a brisk halt century, and 1 Weir and Gallichan made 70 ta a timely eight-wicket partnership, the latlter’e innings lasting 80 minutes. Dunning also demonstrated all round usefulness, assisting in the ninth wipket partnership of 40, and Cowie vigorously attacked the bowling, hitting four fours in one over. Wallace, Lamason. Gallichan and Dunning made their highett scores of the tour. Somerset batted for an hour and three-quarters, scoring quickly after the cheap loss of the first two batsmen.
