Semple, Minister of Transi port, to-day, when ret i ring to the | new transport legislation which lie i proposes to introduce in the next ses- ■ sion of Par-.lament. | The Minister said he intended to i give the, drunken driver no mercy. I He had to get off the road, because he was a menace to- the rest of the community. The decisions of justices of the peace in some cases against d. unken drivers had been -appalLng and that state of affairs had to come to an end, added Mr Semple. As la: as the Magistrates. were concerned they were administering tho law as it. stood very fairly indeed, aild he was pleased to notice that they were becoming stricter in dealing wiih this class of offender. “I am satisfied with their decisions and comment, which \s in fine with my own view that these men are a menace to the lives of innocent people,” said the Minister. “The new Bill will provide for the consolida (ion of the Motor Vehicles Act with three amendments, the Transport Licensing Act with four pmondments, and a number of clauses aft; cting transport in v’arioua Public Works Acts.”
