PIONEER OF TARANAKI
Late Mr Dominik Fischer Mr Dominik Fischer, who died suddenly on June 16 at h’s residence. Mii'. nda Street, Stratford, at the age 81 years, was one of the oldest pioneers of Taran ki and was highly respected throughout the province. Mr Fisch r, who was a native of Switzerland, arrived in the Dominion n th.? 1875 and war- first employed in surveying work for the Public Works Department. L ter he purchased a farm at Midhirst when he land was in standing bush. Ho resided at Midhirst for over 50 years and ’a little over six years ago he retired to live at Stratford. He is survived by his widow, three sons, Messrs L. Fischer, R. Fiscner (Waipuku), H. Fischer (Midhirst), and seven daughters, Mrs J. Groshinski (Tuna), Mrs G. Schumacher (Midhirst), Mrs R. Hamblyn (Waipuku), Mrs M. Hogan (Stratford), and Misses 1., A., and S. Fischer (Stratford). Requiem mass was celebrated at the Church of the Immaculate Conception Stratford, by Rev. Father Kavanagh on June 18, 'and the interment took place at the Kopuatama cemetery. Rev. Father Kennedy officiated at tlie graveside. The pLll bearers were the late Mr Fischer’s four sons-in-law, Messrs G. Schumacher, J. Groshinski, R. Hamblyn, M. Hogan and Messrs J. and F. Schumacher.
