STAR DEFEAT UNITED

Star defeated United at Rugby Elark by 14 points to 9, after a bright exhibition, in which fortunes fluctuated considerably. Star drew first blood, but then United, playing attractively and throwing the ball about freely, soon took the lead and when shortly after Half time tire visitor,, scored a third try they looked likely to win. Star, however, battled on grimly and a dazzling itry by Neilson changed the aspect of the game. United, who had played the second spell with only seven forwards, began to tire. Star took the lead when Neilson and the full-back,, Simpson, were associated in a good movement, resulting in the full-back scoring a splendid try. In the dying sdages Star scored again. United put up a fine struggle against odds and had not McCready had" to retire fairly darly in the game might have reversed the decision. The teams were;

Star: Simpson; McKay, Neilson, Holmes; McFarlane, Goody; Bullot; Sampson, Whittaker, Erb; M. Good in, J. McLean, Spence, Rutherturd, J. Goodin.

United Old! Boys: L. Dash; MeGarrison Richadton, Ries; McCready, Adlam; Robinson; Bowler; Murphy, C. Thomson, Bonner, O’Keefe; R. Thompson, Bilski, Bird. Mr K. Nodder was referee.

United attacked from the kick off but Star cleared, and from a scilamble near United line Rutherford scored at the corner. The visiting backs then came to light with a sparkling moment, which culminated; in Adlam dashing over. Then Murphy pushed hie way over from a line-out to put United in front. Star was rather unlucky in not scoring twice from forward rushes.

Immediately on resumption the United team rushed play to Star line, where Bilski scored. Neilson ran across the field and then, cleverly changing direction, cut right through under the posts. Simpson converted. Star continued to press, and from an opening by Neilson, who side-stepped two men, Simpson dashed over at the corner. Just before the end McFarlane cut through well >to make a good opening for McKay to rtora. Star 1„ United Old Boys 9.
