Election Of Officers

The annua! meeting of the Taranaki Horticultural Association »aa held ait Stratford, last night, Mr H. C. Johnson presiding. The year 1936-37 has been one of progress, the annual report stated. The Whitely Show Society affiliated at the beginning of ithe year, bringing the total ‘number of affiliated societies 'to ten. The districts represented included New Plymouth, Waitara. Inglewood, Stratford. Eltham, Normanby, Okaiawa end Hawera. During (ihe year Messrs W. Pet* - grew and Sons purchased a cup fS spring flowering shrubs, and Messi*'Yates and Co for cummer annuals. The Society also purchased one for spring bulbs other than narcissi. A cup was still required for the open daffodil championship. After that had been obtained the association would hold cups for all championships which had so far been established. The Association had maintained a sound financial position, opening the year with a credit balance of £1 lIP 3d, and closing with a credit balance of £3 6s 3d. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr H. C. Johnson; secretary and treasurer, Mrsl E. H. Young, vice-presidents, Messrs F. R. Pepperell (EWham), and W. Henderson

(Inglewood); executive, Messrs' A. E. Linn (Normnnby), Bernard, Pettigrew and Misses Frassr (Wai tar a), and Bates (Hawera); hon. auditor, Mrs B. C. Blick.

The purchase from the credit balance of a ‘trophy for the open daffodil championship was recommended to the executive. A recommendation from the executive was adopted that the association should if it thought fit alloft
