The City’s response to the new tax has been a small all-round improvement in securities. The only criticism the financial editor of the Australian Associated Press heard in the City or House of Commons was directed to the fact that the tax falls exclusively on ordinary shareholders, and leaves preference and debenture holders, and other classes who derived some benefit from the Government expenditure untouched.
