WOMEN’S DIVISION

Central Taranaki Executive During the past month, a short visit from the Dominion President W.D.F.U., Mrs C. K. Wilson, to Central Taranaki proved inspiring and gave encouragement and enthusiasm to many members and branches. Every effort was made to allow as many members as possible to meet Mrs Wilson and hear her addresses.

A visit was paid to Toko branch meeting, where there was a good attendance in spite of inclement weather. Mrs Wilson also visited Huiroa birthday party, where members from Matau, Toko, Purangi, Huinga, Cardiff, Stratford, Midhirst, Strathmore, Te Wera-Makahu, Pohokura, Wharchuia and Pembroke road were assembled, and she was also able to be present at Ratapiko birthday party again meeting members from surrounding branches Everywhere Mrs Wilson’s narrations of conditions and activities of other branches, particularly of small and isolated branches, made interesting hearing, and the-valuable information of the useful activities of the W.D. as a whole was a source of great inspiration. During her visit Mrs Wilson opened a new branch of the W.D. at Tututawa, the officers elected being: Presidet, Mrs Wallace; vice-presidents, Mesdames Lewis and Jacobson; secretary, Miss Jacobson; treasurer, Mrs Qernhoefer, Bird Road branch was also opened by Mrs Wilson, the officers elected being: President, Mrs Death; secretary, Mrs Hall; treasurer, Mrs McRae.

A mass meeting of women organised by the executive was held in the Town Hall in order to give Dr. Doris Gordon an opportunity of addressing the women of the district on social problems. This meeting was chaired by Mrs Wilson, and was also attended by Hon. Peter Fraser and Mrs Fraser, Mr and Mrs Polson and the Mayor, Mr McMillan. The meeting was well attended and at afternoon tea at the conclusion of the meeting a very interesting informal discussion upon the subject was held. On the last day of her visit to Taranaki, Mrs Wilson visited Pohokura, where visitors from Tahora and Whangamomona were present to meet her. This meeting was one of the most interesting to Mrs Wilson and some interesting material was 1 ' gleaned for further activity on the part of the W.D. During the later part of May, Mrs H. A. Hunt, Provincial President, opened a new branch at Kahouri Bridge. elected were: President, Mrs Trotter; vice-presi-dent, Mrs Leech; secretary, Miss Hunter; treasurer, Mrs Nielson. All of the new branches are warmly welcomed into the executive, and all good wishes for a useful and interesting life in their district is heartily accorded them.
