Horowhenua Asks For Poll Press Association—Copyright. Levin, June 14. ‘‘The Minister has said that if a referendum is to be taken it will be a referendum of the people and not of the ratepayers,” said the chairman of the Horowhenua County Council, Mr G. A. Monk, at this month's meeting, when a letter was read from the Makara County Council referring to local body amalgamations. The council’s support was asked to the following resolution: ‘‘That the proposed legislation making provision tor the amalgamation of local bodies be amended so as to provide for a poll of ratepayers before such legislation Is proceeded with, and that members of Parliament representing the local bodies concerned be urged to support this amendment.”
The motion was carried unanimously.
