FOUR PLANES LEAVE FOR BASE PILOT’S LUCKY ESCAPE Forced Landing When Petrol Fails Press Association—Copyright. (Received 11 30 a.m.) Moscow, June 6. Four planes left the North Pole station for the expedition’s base at Rudolf Island, 550 miles away, leaving behind on the icefloe near the Pole four men, who will remain throughout the winter making meteorological and other observations. Three of the machines were flown, by Mazuruk, Vodopianov and Milikov, with Dr Schmidt, leader of the expedition aboard; one machine. The three planes arrived at Rudolf Island five and la-half hours' later. The fourth, piloted by Alexeyev, landed on the icb at a latitude of 85 degrees owing to shortage of petrol. Supplies will be flown to him from Rudolf Island.
