VALUED PICTURE SLASHED Dominion Artist’s Work Ruined Press Association —Copyright. Wellington, June 4. Some vandal yesterday afternoon at the Dominion Art Gallery cut a piece clean out of Mr Harold Speed's beautiful picture, "May Mornihg," a line oil painting 30 inches by 24 inches, depleting the semi-nude figure of a girl sitting against a colourful background. The work was purchased in 192 S by the New Zealand Academy for £l5O and formed part of the collection presented by the Academy to the National Gallery. The piece cut is more or less circular, measuring nine inched by seven and including the upper part of the torso. Whoever committed the vandalism took this piece away, as there is no sign of it. Tno picture is ruined.
