HOSPITAL PATIENTS’ FEES

Reply To Criticism

Objection to criticism by Mr S. Pitt at a meeting of the Stratford County Council regarding collection of patients’ fees was made by Mrs M. T. Phillips at a meeting of the Stratford Hospital Board to-day. She considered that a reply should be made. It would not be humane, said Mrs Phillips, to compulsory take away patients’ sustenance and pension monies. The secretary, Mr T. L. Penn, said that the Board was the tenth highest in New Zealand in the collection cf fees per occupied bed. It was third in New Zealand for a hospital of its size. “Have the critics ever analysed the Board’s expenditure?” Mr N. H. Moss asked. The levy, he said, compared very favourably with other Hospital Boards in New Zealand and a very effective reply could be made to critics.
