The New Zealand cricketers took all the honours in the second day, of the match against Northants, forcing the county to struggle hard to avoid a follow on and- then showing some of the most satisfying batting form of the tour. Northants scored 185 in the first innings, and New Zealand 230 for theloss- of three wickets, in the second. Th e New Zealanders made 334 in the first innings. New Zealand rattled oq runs in the second innings, batting just under three hours, Kerr gliding and cutting the fast bowlers beautifully, occasionally driving and hooking powerfully. His compiling of 83 was a brilliant display. Wallace again played a -workmanlike innings, hitting five fours. Carson found form, heavily pasting all the bowlers and hitting five fours and seven twos, being especially severe on the leg side. Pa.g e confidently assisted to add 60 in the last 30 minutes, in a failing light.
