PROVINCIAL ASSOCIATION! Gathering At Stratford In 1938 The annual meeting of the Taranaki Provincial Caledonian Sports As- i sociation last night was attended by the following delegates: Messrs. J. L. Campbell and J. Kilpatrick (Hawera Scottish Society), A. L. Campbell, J. ■ B Henson, A. E. Linn (Hawera Pipe I Band), A. C. Morrison, M. Beattie I (Eltham Pipe Band) and W. Marr, J. | Skinner and T. Blair (Uroa Pipe I Band) and W. F. Ross I secretary). The Stratford and New Plymouth affiliated bodies were not represented. Mr J. L. Campbell presided.
It was with regret that the Eltham ' committee reported the postponement . of the 1937 annual reports. The com- I mittee had all arrangements made ’ when infantile paralysis broke out at I Eltham. It was then deemed advis- j | able by the. committee, through in-j Ptructions issued by the Health De- i ( partment ,t.o postpone the sports. | ' After a period the committee again i became active, but was unable to se- j ' cure a date, all suitable suggestions | I being found to clash with eVents in I I towns close by. The only available '■ ; date was towards the end of April • and that was considered too late. ■ Thanks were due to Mr R. Lee, who j acted as secretary, and to Mr C. W. * ; Carncross, his assistant. i The balance-sheet showed receipts j totalling £57 13s 7d, including the '• previous year’s balance of £.46 19s ;10d, affiliation fees ££9 9s 6d and interest £1 4s 3d. The year showed ia loss of £1 Bs. Affiliation fees were paid by the Hawera Scottish Society, | Hawera Pipe Band, Auroa Pipe Band, ' Stratford Scottish Society, Eltham i Pipe Band and the New' Plymouth ; Caledonian Society.
Election Of Officers. | Officers elected were: Chief, Mr T. jW. Smith (Stratford); secretary, Mr ■W. F. Ross (Stratford; auditor, Mr |F. E. Clarke (Stratford); treasurer, I Mr Smith. ( As the Provincial Scottish Society • was willing to organise the sports at j Stratford in 1938, it was thereupon • decided to fix Stratford as the venue | and to leave further arrangements for ' a later meeting. Mr Ross was accorded a vote of thanks for his services as secretary.
