Start Of New Cook Strait Service Press Association— Copyright. Wellington, May 30. Lyall Bay yesterday was the acene of cable laying operations when the Wellington end of the new cable across Cook Strait was laid by the motor-ship Hokitika. The Hokitika s laying about two and a half miles of the cable from Lyall Bay and the other end' is to be attached to a buoy which will later be picked up by the cable ship Recorder, which will lay the remaining sections across the strait.
