Stratford’s Second Defeat The Inglewood forwards carried theirside to .victory after a thrilling match at Inglewood by 15 points to 14. Inglewood scored three goals from tries and Stratford two field goals, a penalty goal and a try. The teams were: Inglewood: C. Hunt: McCullum, Rumball, E. O’Byrne; R. Arnold, Ward; L. Arnold; Brown, P. Murphy, W. Young, Corney, D. Murphy, S. O’Byrne, Taylor, Rosewarne. Stratford: Butcher; Rowlands, Ross, Robson; Lehmann, Cuff; C. Sagster; Hinton, R. Young. R. Clarke, Davey, Smith, L. Clarke, Bird, Fastier, Sangster and Cuff changed places early in the second half. Stratford opened the scoring about half-way through a tame first spell with a splendid penalty goal by Ross. Inglewood scored twice before the interval, first E. O’Byrne and then Rumball cutting infield clean through the Stratford team to score near the posts. W. Young converted both, but the second kick was lucky, the bail striking an upright and bouncing the right way. Stratford’s long-awaited offensive began with a good opening by R. Clarke, whose -pass to Rowlands went forward. The Stratford pack swept itresistibly to the line from the scrum and Robson came in to score Stratford’s only try. Ross missed with the kick.
Stratford heeled from a scrum o« the twenty-five for Sangster to even the score with a snap drop-kick. Stratford heeled again and Sangster sent the ball between the posts amid an uproar.
Stratford seemed likely to score again when the backs were strung out from a scrum, but a wave of Inglewood forwards broke on to a dropped pass and swept through a disorganised defence for D. Murphy to score wide out. W. Young's kick was successful. There were hectic rallies about midfield for th© remaining -minutes with Stratford throwing caution to the winds. L. Arnold picked the ball out of the scrum near half-way, but Ross missed a long kick. Inglewood 15 Stratford 14 Mr C. Evans was referee.
