BLASTING ACCIDENT

POWDER EXPLOSION Man Sent To Hospital As the result of Injuries received' from an explosion, of blasting powder at Stratford, Mr J. Vinten, employed by the Midhirst Dairy Company, was admitted to the Stratford Hospital yesterday afternoon. Yesterday morning Mr Vinten was engaged, splitting pine wood, using blasting powder in a splitting gun. and the accident occurred when he was about to resume work after lunch. It was surmised that a spark from his pipe entered' an open tin contailning 'powder, which exploded with a burst of flame, his clothes being ignited. He ran to a house some 50 yards distant with portion of his clothes afire. Dr. Steven, who was called, found that Mr Vinten had received fairly extensive arm and bocly burns, and ordered his removal to hospital. The condition of the injured' man to_day was reported to be satisfactory.
