MIDGET AEROPLANE

WAIPUKURAU EXPERIMENTS Search For A Propeller Waipukufiau, May 26. Difficulty in securing a propeller with a suitable pitch has held up the experimental work of Mr E. R. Perkins, of Waipukurau, who, with the co-operation of Mr L. Hawke, has built a “flying_flea” aeroplane. He is now waiting to receive a propeller . from Australia, and on its arrival in Hawke's Bay he will carry on with his work Mr Perkins admitted that he dlid not think the “flying flea” wae a practical proposition at the present time, mainly because with the type of construction sufficient power could not be generated to make flying perfectly safe. He himself has built hlalf a dozen aeroplanes of various, designs and claims to know something of the dangers of faulty designing by inexperienced amateurs. His “flying flea” is at present housed at Waipukurau. Mr Perkins intends to fly his aeroplane locally for demonstration and experimental purposes. Under existing legislation he may not fly his machine for a greater distance than three miles from the aerodrome.
