A. & P. SHOW CIRCUIT

Dates For Stratford I Agricultural and pastoral show 1 dates providing for the holding of the 1 Hawera and Stratford’ shows inimedi- ; ately following the Manawatu show i at Palmerston North ins ead of after i the Wanganui show as in the past four years were approved at the annual meeting of the Western Counc’l of the Royal Agricultural Society at HawEi’a yesterday. Applying for a week after Hawera the Stratford association suggested that the Egmont show at Hawera should follow Palmerston North. It j was pointed out that four years ago the order in circuit hud been changed to allow Wanganui to change from I a.n autumn to a spring show. Regard’- | less of emphatic protests Wanganui I had been allowed to follow Palmerston North and Stratford had been relegLfied to the end of the circuit. The arrangement had been consented to on Wanganui’s undertaking to provide a full schedule of all classes of stock, thu s offering inducement .to the c-xhibi’ or to continue the circuit of Palmerston North, Wanganui, Hawera and Stratford. Wangttnui had failed to fulfil this promise, considerably retarding the success of the circuit. The standardisation of agricultural and pastoral show en rance fee® and’ prize-money \as suggested by the Stratford Association wa s not. favoured. Speaking in support of a letter from -he Stratford Association, Mr W. F. Ross said that a study of balancesheets showed -hat nearly all associations were saddled with the burden of ever-rising prize money. When a show such as that at Stratford had to provide up to £l2OO for this purpose ’<t whs apparent hat something woul have to be done. Prize money at most shows wag now far too high..
