! Miss T. Lacey left by the express this morning for Wellington. Hon. P. C'. Webb, Minister of Labour, returned to Wellington yesterday j from the South Island. Mr J. Heggie, who was appointed surveyor at Stratford under the Government housing scheme, commenced his duties yesterday. Mr Loftus Rea, of New Plymouth, has been appointed totalisator manager to the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club, says a Press Association telegram from Christchurch. Mr W. J. Dwyer is at present at Wellington attending the annual district conference of the- Hibernian. Australasian Catholic Benefit Society.
Colonel R. St. John. Beere, Wellington, has been appointed Drench Consular Agent in Wellington to replace Mr O. R. Bendall, who relinquished that office on his departure from the city. ' ,* The council of Otago University al rhe monthly meeting yesterday placed on record its appreciation of the services given it. by Sir James Allen, who has completed 50 years of membership of the council, being vicechancellor from December, 1903, to October, 1909, and chancellor until 1912. The Rt.. Rev. W. 11. Baddeley, Bishop of Melanesia, who was in New Zealand recently for the Anglican Synod and later went, to Australia on business affecting the Melanesian Mission, will arrive from Sydney by the Mariposa next Monday. The bishop is to leave for the New Hebrides on the following Wednesday by the mission's motor vessel Southern Cross, which | is at present at Auckland.
