Payment of £5 conscience money was made to a- Hastings retailer today by two young men who said they had taken £5 worth of goods from her shop during the earthquake period seven years ago. “We could get no peace of mind! until we paid you/’ said one as he handed over the money. “We were too young' to know then how serious' it was, but the matter has been on our consciences ever since.”

“I think it splendid for these boys to come along this way,” said the shopkeeper. “It is good ’to know tliere are such hones’! people in the world.”
