STATION 2ZP WAIROA
To Be Taken Over By Government Press Association—Copyright. Waipukurau, May 21. Speaking at Waipukurau on Wednesday evening, Mr P. A. Perry, founder of the B radio station, 2ZP, Wairba, said that the ’Government would take over the station by pur. chase at 'the end of the month, the owners being virtually forced to sell as the supbsidy, if given, would be only in the vicinity of £lOO a year. The B stations had hung on as Mr Scrimgeour, when president of the association, had strongly urged that under the course the new Government had promised the lot of B stations would be a happy one, ami they would be subsidised and allowed to expand, said Mr Perry. Since coming into power the Government had; seen Some other policy and the “pronjjsed land” had failed to materialise.
At a large gathering In the Municipal Theatre, Waipukurau, the following resolution wa s passed unanimously, the Mayor, Mr II Mackie, putting the resolution: “That; in the event of the purchase of the Walroa broadcasting station, 2ZP, by the Government' the station be Maintained within the Hawke’s Bay province. Also that' In view of its proven educational value, especially in regard to the station’s children’s organisations, he present executive personnel of th e station be retained.”
