ANOTHER NEW SIRE

Hazrat For The Waikato The dispersal of the Cullengoral Stud! in New South Wales has resulted in the purchase of the Craig an Eran stallion Hazrat for the Dominion. Hazrat, who has already been successfully represented on the Turf in Australia by three two.yeir old winners, was secured for Messrs. Malcolm Bros., Te Rapa, Waikato. Hazrat, who arrived in Auckland last week, is a horse of excellent quality and good conformation, auid he was a successful racehorse both in England (where he won as a two-year-oMt) and in Ausit-ralia (where he won the V.R.C. Farewell Handicap and other races). Recently he was champion stallion at the Geelong show, which speaks well for his individuality. He represents a line of breeding that is outstandingly popular Ithe w’orld over, being directly descended from ’ the famous mar? Paraffin.

Craig an Eran, the sire of Hazrat, has not previously been represented in the Dominion. He is one of the notable sons of that great sire Sunstar, by Sundridge. Winner of both the Two Thousand Guineas and the Eclipse Stakes, he is a son of a famous mare in Maid ot the Mist, who was by Cyllene, sire of five Derby winners, and is from that great mare Seep re, the winner of £38,225. Maid of the Mist is also the dam of the Oaks winner Sunny Jane and of Hamoaze, the dam of Buchan, winner of the Eclipse Stakes. l (twice). Craig an Eran sired the English Derby winner April the Fill h, and hi s close relative Buchan, who was also by Sunstar, sired the St. Leger winner Book Law.

Hazrat’s dam, Duxford, is a halfsitter to that high-class English'horse I’he Night Patrol, who sold for 10,000 guineas after proving himself a first-class racehourse both in England end Australia. She is by Swynford, the s ire of both Iliad and Bland, lord. Her second dam, Dark Flight, is by Dark Ronald, the sire ot Son-tn-Law. Heroic, Night Raid, Rossendale, and Magpie are sires from the same line as Hazrat who have done well in this part of the world. Although up to the present Hazrat has had only a few runners to represent him on the Ttirf in Australia, next year he will be strongly represented, as there were 10 yearlings by him sold at the recent Sydney tales. it Owner To Race Polydora Mr. G. Half, who returned from a trip to England last week, has decided not to grant a renewal of Polydora’s lease to Messrs. H. A. Rhind and N. Rutherford, and the mare will reappear in her owner’s colours at th” South Canterbury Meeting on Thursday. She will be making her first attempt over country and will be ridden by N. Trillo. Coil ingham, also owned by Mr. Ball, will contest the hurdle race on the second day only. Unseen Back In Work Unseen, a. six-year.old Rosenor— Kilris gelding, has been working well since joining S. Barr’s stable at Riccarton. and it should not be long before he i s out of hack class (says a southern writer). To date his stake winnings amounted to £536. but his four wins total only £340 and he is thus still eligible for hack even’s. Starting his racing career as a tliree_year-old, Unseen earned the modest sum of £lO in his first year, ■■-ihe result of a third placing from six starts. The next season, however, he was much raced; winning four times and being seven times placed in 27 starts. He did not race iast s.eason, nor has he yet been out this term.

Unseen’s dam, Kilris, was bred byMr. H. Hassall’in 1920. She was by llhe Kilbroney sire Kilboy, who won the A.J C. Derby, C.J.C. Great Autumn, N.Z. St. Leger, and Trentham Gold Cup as a threie.yeaiyold. and her dam was the Birkenhead—Tigress tnare Tigris, dam also of Tigritlya (winner of the A.R.C. Railway and dam of Te Koroke, Arvada, and Courtega) and of Tigeroy (dam of Gold Ruler, Royal Bengal, and Tigerism).
