GRANTS TO EAST COMMITTEE.
I Grants totalling £4O were made by • the Stratford County Council to-day ‘ to the East Committee of the Egmont j National Park Board. The amount rei presented this year’s annual grant | £2O, and a similar amount for last ■ year when no application was receivi ed by the council. ! i FARMERS AND LABOUR. i “At the last election the Labour ! Party members knew they had the j support of the industrial sections in I the city electorates, and, realising i'that they could not get into power without the help of some other section. they went after the small farmer, . and on that occasion they got him,” remarked Hon. A. Hamilton in the course of an address to the National Party in Wellington yesterday. “They j had a lot of luck, for the farmer is not in any sense allied to industrial labour, as he has no affinity with the coal miners, wharf labourers, seamen, and such-like industrialists who form i the back bone of the Labour movement.”
