EAST EGMONT

REDWOOD PLANTATION Park Board Ranger’s Report The East Committee of the Egmont National Park Board met last night. Present were: Mestrs T. R. Anderson' (chairman), C. R. Finnerty, W. Vickers, W. L. Kennedy, J. B. Richards, Percy Thomson, Brian McMillan, J. C. Allen, W. E. Williams, and G. A. Carter (secretary). Mr N. Gibsoni, Egmont National Park Bolard ranger, attended the meeting and reported on the plantation of redwood and Oregon trees on an area of 28 acres adjoining the Barclay Rohd. He stated' that about 50 per cent, ot the trees.' were dead and of the balance from 10 to 15 per cent, were poor trees. He recommended that the area be planted with native trees. On tne motion of Mr Thomson, it was decided that the committee undertake the planting of the area with native trees subject to the Park Board finding the necessary finance. Mr Brian McMillan reported that timber for lockers at the Manganui hut had been taken up but the work had been delayed by bad weather. It was hoped to proceed with the work at the week-end. The cattle stop at the entrance to the reserve was l widened l by the addition of three more rails and rails were erected along one side to stop cattle jumping across one corner, reported the caretaker, Mr J. Carryer. New flooring was put down on the. verandah of the bunkhouse. The sitling.room and bathroom in the cottage had been repainted and renovated:. The first snow of the teason at the house fell on April 24. Good skiing was obtained at odd times during the month, but changeable weather interfered with the sport to a grelit extent. A statement of revenue for the past month showed receipts amounting fo £2B IBs, made up of park fees £l4 16s, car tolls £l3 15s, and sundry ss.
