STRATFORD COUNCIL
. DR. W. P. GORDON RESIGNS i Will. Not Stand Next Year i (To the Editor.) Sir, —Herewith appended is ia copy of a letter I have to-day forwarded to the Town Clerk. I feel that some ex I planation is due to the burgesses i who have given me their support. 1 | fully realise that 1 lay myself open I to two charges of (1) not being able j to take a defeat, and (2) electioneeri ing. i 1 think I can ignore the first charge i as. I have cheerfully accepted defeat ion two previous occasions on the j same question. On this last occasion ; the Mayor and the Councillors who : followed his lead argued th:at the | question of reducing electricity char|ges should be referred to the rate- | payers, and unanimously agreed; to ; do so. ! It n*iw transpires that they had no ' intention of abiding by the ratepayers’ j decision, and their action can bo ; classed only as one of pure evasion !or mud-died thinking. The result was ‘to waste the time of the ratepayers | and, incidentally, my time, too. | As to the charge of electioneering [already levelled in Council, I can ; dispose of this by stating I have no I intention of contesting next year’s | elec ion for the position of either ; Mayor or Councillor. i I have been happy to do what I ! could to forward the interests of the • borough generally, and take this op. j portunity of thanking tne burgesses ■ for their encouragement and support, i —l am, etc., W. P. P. GORDON. I I Stratford, May IS. !
