There was no pl'ay in the match between the New Zealand cricketers and Surrey before lunch to-day, owing to rain. The match was resumed at 2 p.m. New Zefeljandi conpolidatedl -their position on the second day, securing a useful lead, and then lost ground through lapses in the field. Carson and Donnelly steadily continued their praiseworthy partnership for an hour, adding 100 for the six'll wicket. Donnelly, leaving most o£ the scoring to his* more aggressive partner, batted 100 minutes without giving a chance'. Carson waited patiently for a loose ball and then punched it powerfully, especially to squlare leg cover point. He hit a dozen fours in an invaluable innings, which lasted 160 minutes. Gover, bowling with great took three wickets in two overs with a new ball. Tindill and Cowie weightily adder! 24 for the last wicket. Though Roberts took 'two beauties in 'the slips and Gallichiin a good one at square leg, five catches.' were dropped when the County bathed. Knight, Sandman, Fishlock and Gregory were the chief scorers. All were missed early. Roberts was a heavy sufferer, three chances being dropped from him. All the bowlers tried manfully, but were let down in the field. With good support they would have had Lhe County in a parlous plight. New Zealand in the first. innings made 233. Surrey in the first innings scored 149, and in 'the second innings had compiled 127 for the loss of four wickets when stumps: were drawn.
