Tire New Zealand cricket team opened its JM-glish tour successfully St the Ovral, dismissing Surrey for 149 and scoring 161 for five wickets. Carson, who made 60 not out, and Giallichan, who bowled with hostility, played a big part in putting Nbw Zealand in a sound position. Surrey won the. toss'and batted on a wicket that wtas soft and easy. The New Zealand team is: Page, Kerr, Vivian, Moloney, Carson, Donnelly, Tindiili, Wallace, Roberts, Cowie and Gallichah. Hadlee is suffering from a slight cold. The New Ze.alandiers opened their tour impressively by dismissing one of the strongest county sides in three hours on lan excellent wicket through steady bowling supported by keen fielding, says the special correspondent of the Press Association! Frequent applause from a crowd ' numbering 3000 rewarded faultless fielding by the New Zealanders. The vulperabiliLy of the early touring batsmen facing the express bowler Cover, was relieved by the tradesmanlike ddtpiay of Kerr, who batted for 80 minutes, and redeemed by the courageous stand of Carson and Donnelly, the ypung left-handers saving the side. They batted with determination to add 67 runs at a difficult time. Carson resolutely defied the attack for 100 minutes and hit eight tours. Donnelly, who was watchful aud careful, batted well.
