UNITED DEFEATED
Old Boys Win Luckily Playing on Pukekura the New Plymouth Old Boys’ team defeated United Old Boys by a penalty goal to nil, thereby securing their first win this season. On the day's play Uni'ed deserved to have won. Territorially the visitors had Ithe advantage for two. 1 thirds of the game but the backs lacked finish. They threw the gall about at every possible chance but seldbm looked dangerous. The forwards all packed in solidly, every man doing his ' full shore. Heath played a dashing game and Q Thomson and, O’Keefe worked hard all the way. For the winners Evans and Wheeler worked like Trojans right to the end and Brown was always there. Clif-ford-Jones palyed soundly but Jhe Old Boys backs gave their scoring winger Ford no opportunity all dlay. Johns, at full-back, gave a grand exhibiMon all the time, scarcely making an error. The teams were: United Oldi Boys: Adlam; Bowler, Richardson, L. Lash; McCready, Mc_ Carrison; W. Lash; Robinson; O’Keefe, C. Thomson, Murphy; Bonner, Bilski, W. Thompson, Heath. New Plymouth Old Boys: Johons, Tippens, Mclntyre, Ford; Hall, Clif-tord-Jones; F. Uhlenberg; J. Uhle.n_ gerg, Wheeler, Evans, Brown, Cleverley; Davison, Rogers, Leatherby. The first spell was uninteresting, with both teams evenly matched and ended without score. Shortly after the resumption of play New. Plymouth Old Boy s scored: when Johns kicked a great penalty goal from just inside halfway with a heavy ball. The Stratford team, spurred by this re. verse, took a turn at attacking and W. Lash made a good attempt, to pot a goal United had a chance when New Plymouth was penalise.! right on the line but W. Lash’; kick failed. New Plymouth stagsd a fine rally and F. Uhienberg broke right fhrough but in a race for the b?ll with Ford, McCready forced just in time. Over the concluding stages United had al] the be'ter of matters and tried ucsperately for a try but Old Boys defence held, leaving the final score: Old Buys 3 United 0 Mr W. Were was referee.
