RACE ON SEINE
’VARSITY CREWS IN PARIS Oxford And Cambridge Both Win PiiTis, April 10. Result of the ’Varsity boat race: An easy win for Oxford and Cambridge. But this race was rowed last Saturday on the Seine in Paris, wh-are the English University crews- beat tiwO’ French boats. Cries of “AllonsY, Oxford,” “En avant, Cambridge,” reared- along the banks of the Seine (as a hundred thousand French men, women and .children turned out for Paris “boat race” day. This was the firs't time that ths two university crews had raced in France. Against two representative Paris crews, one composed of bers of rowing clubs from the River Seine, the other from clubs on the River Marne, both English crews won by at least four lengths. Over the short course of three kilometres (1 7-8 miles) between S . Cloud Bridge and Suresnes Bridge, compared with the English boa'trace course of 4| miles, the English crews feared at first that the French eights would have a great •advantage. Bitt Cambridge put on a fine spurt, and Oxford paddlsd home to win wi hout any apparent effort.
