QUESTION OF CHARGES Southland Protest Press Association —Copyright. Invercargill. May 3. A protest against what was termed exorbitant prices for admission to the forthcoming matches with the South African team was mpde by the Southland Rugby Union to-night. Members discussed the charges which had been fixed at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union and it was decided to protest that, the charges were excessive and ask that the New Zealand Union reconsider them with a view to having them reduced. The chairman. Mr L. R. Lopdell, said the charges had been fixed by ths management committee of the New Zealand Union and adopted by the lannual meeting of delegates. The council of the New Zealand union had power to alter the m. Mr R. T. Meredith, who is president of the New Zealand union, said he could give no idea how the prices wer? arrived at. They were introduced by the management committee at the annual meeting and (about two delegates protested against IhFpi w “Apart from the 10s charge 1 don’t think the other prices are excessive,” he added*. ‘ They are much the same as we charge in inter-provincial games. Last year in some of the inter-provincial games some people l were prepared to pay as mush as £2 for a seat. We have to remember that wages had gone up and the working man who received only 8s a dlay once upon a time is now getting 18s and £1 a day. Everything has gone up, including wages.”
