BUDAPEST OR BUDA

Change Of Name Advocated Budapest, April 9. A movement to change the name of Budapest, for Buda, bias been set on foot by Dr. Szell, who will give a Beriet of lectures on the question. Dr Szell argues that Buda is an ancient Hungarian name, which., according to researches, means "'a man of au hority.” Lt is sugges ed that it wag inadvisable to give <ths three towns of Buda, Pest and O-Buda the collective name of "Budapest,” which resembles 'Bucaret',” and constantly gives rise to postal mistak s. In addEion to this, the word "pest” means "plague” in several European languages, and therefore has unpleas ant associations.
