Their Majesties and Prince-as Elizabeth embarked on !the Admiral’s Barge siit Westminster to-day and journeyed. down the river, escorted by four motor boats, to open the National Maritime Museum ‘at Greenwich. The sirens of tugs and freighters screamed a greeting, and aeroplanes roared overhead. There were greigT crowds on the banks, also on ‘the moored lighters in the river. There was an unrehearsed thrill passing Cleopatra’s l Needle, when a Wave ten feet high surged up the Embankmeht and knocked down several spectators. The King, replying to the address of welcome, recalled his own life in '.lie Navy. He said he was glad that the opening of the museum was one of the first ceremonies of his rsign. The British Commonwealth would never have come into existence but for the enterprise, courtage and character of our seamen. The qualities.' of Drake, Nelson, and Franklin, were as necessary to-day as ever.
