SCHOLARS’ SELECTION
DISTINGUISHED NEW ZEALANDERS Vote Taken At Technical High School To select six New Zealanders who, it was considered, had done most to promote the welfare of the country and enhance its fame abroad, a vote was taken among the pupils of the Stratford Technical High School. The greatest number of votes was recorded for Sir Truby King, Lord Rutherford, Sir Maui Pomare, Sir Clutha McKenzie, Miss Jean Batten, and Mr J. E. Lovelock. About 350 pupils voted, and Sir Truby King received the largest number of votes —177. Seven of the chidren placed the six people mentioned on their voting papers. Others who secured a fair number of votes were: Sir Apirana Ngata, Katherine Mansfield, Dr Doris Gordon, Dr Peter Buck, Sir James Carroll and Sir John Salmond.
