Niven, for hauling in a catch at night are believed to have been mistaken for -ths distress signals reported to have been s?en off Kekerangu, which lies on the -east coast of the South Island, about two-thirds of the distance from Claps Campbell o the mouth of the Clarence River, and approximately half-way bet>v.'e<n Cape Campbell and Kaikoura. (Considerable anxiety and Isyc'tivity on the part of shipping and other officials was caused last night and this morning, when a report, was received that a vess 1 was in distress.
