NIGHTDRESS COPIED.
Charge Against Bergner. London, April 14. The question whether Elizabeth Bergner had a right to wear the nightgown in which she appears in the film, “Catherine the Great,” was raised in the Court of Chancery. The point was whether it was copied from a gown worn by a French actress in the play, “La Petite Catherine.” It was claimed that the Bergner film infringed the copyright of the French play. Sir Patrick Hastings, K.C., representing defendants, London Film Productions, Ltd., said: “What a woman in Miss Bergner’s position would feel if she were publicly told that she had copied the clothes of a French actress, would be something worth seeing. Fortunately, she is not present in Court, otherwise plaintiff’s counsel would probably have to leave under escort.”
