PROPOSAL DEFEATED
Dunedin Road Poll Press Association—Copyright. Dunedin, April 22. By an overwhelming majority of 6970 votes to 2996 the ratepayers of Dunedin to-day rejected a proposal to raise a loan of £lOO,OOO for reading purposes. Approximately half the numb r of persons on the roll recorded their votes, 10,073 voting of a roll number Of 20,817. During the past fortnight the Mayor, Rev. E. T. Cox, and Labour councillors have conducted a vigorous platform campaign on behalf of the proposal.
