' Queen Mary has honoured the I Coronation Planting Committee by i planting a Tulip tree to commemorate ’ che Coronation, in Queen Mary’s Gardens, Regent’s Park, on a site offered for the purpose by H.M. Bee ide the .tree is a small block Of hand-dressed Portland stone bearing the official plaque in solid bronze announcing that the trte was planted to commemorate the Coronation of his Majesty George VI, and a ' specially engraved bronze plate bearing the words: “Thi s Tulip tree' Wa& planted by her Majesty Queen Mary in Coronation Year, 1937.’}* Planting and other beautifying schemes are being put. in hand all over the Empire as a result of the committee’s campaign, and in response to the words- spoken by the Queen, as Duchess of York, at the Guildhall last November: —“Now is he opportunity for our generation, with the advice and good taste of this committee, to help to add something of lasting beauty to our towns, villages. and countryside.” The Tulip tree is one of the most beautiful of hardy varieties, and bears big creamy blossoms in May. Although the tree planted is too young to flower this, year, in future years it should be in full bloom at the Coronation anniversary.
