New Zealand-Japan Society Formed.
Press Association—Copyright. Tokio, April 14. At the Australian-Japanese lunch on tirxiay, Baron Sakatani; Who was presiding, announced the formation of a New Zealand-Japan Society. Mr. lyemasa Tokugawa, former Consul-General in Sydney, who in 1928 negotiated New Zealand's 1 first foreign (trade agreement, in a witty speech on behalf of Mr. K. Debuchi, who was absent, said that Mr. Debuchi had accepted the presidency. Mr. Tokugawa referred to Japan s increasingly close relations with New Zealand, especially in trade and shipping, and said 'that the New Zealand Society would lead to a s ill better understanding. Among /those present were representatives of the Government, prominent business men and it-ts, local New Zealanders and Mr. Eliot Davis, who said that New Zea, land had greatly benefited from Japan’s curtailment of Australian wool. He hoped that it would continue to do so, pointing out ’’that New Zealand buys much mor>< than it sells, Whereas, the reverse is 'the case with Australia, which sells more than it buy."
