Taranaki womeji's hockey team will be sent, to the Dominion ch am* pionship tournament this year, the Taranaki Women’s Hockey Association decided at its annual meeting at Stratford last night. A “B“ team will also be sent on tour if a suitable itinerary can be arranged. Mr, H C. Johnson presided and delegates were present from the Fit ham. Inglewood, Stratford, Urenui. Waitara, Inuawai (Okaiawa), Urenui, Hawera, Kaponga, New Plymouth. Manaia, Strathmore and Tariki clubs. The past season had been one of success and co-operation, and with the removal of the half-holiday obstacle the association could look forward to another bright season, stated the report. The balance-sheet revealed a very healthy position, the year ending with a credit balance of £l9/9/-, an improvement of £lB for the year. The number of affiliated clubs remained the same. The competitions were played in four divisions, the winners of the respective divisions being Inglewood CCentral). Auroa. (South), New Plymouth (North) and Kohuratahi (Eastern). The balance-sheet showed receipts totalling £97/16/3, including affiliation fees £4O/13, half profits 1935 Hawera tournament £5/10/11, gate receipts representative games £l9/ 6/-, half profits 1936 Hawera tournament £lO5/2, and representative team levies £2l/5/-. Expenditure totalled £79/15/6, items being representative tour expenses £42/7/8. secretary’s honorarium £2/2/-, affiliation with New Zealand association £5/5/-, telephone accounts £2/6/5, outstanding accounts £5/19/3, car hire £4/ 15/6, and advertising £6/5/-. The year began with a credit of £l/9/7 and ended with a credit of £l9/10/4. He had seen 25 years of the association’s activity, said Mr. Johnson, and had seen ladies’ hockey grow into women’s hockey. He recalled how New Plymouth had once been the stronghold of hockey, how Central Taranaki had had a wave of tremendous enthusiasm, and how South Taranaki was now exceptionally strong in comparison with previous years. Women’s hockey was now of even strength throughout the province and the year’s heavy programme could not have been carried through without great and continuous enthusiasm. Mr. Johnson also referred to the excellent work for the Hawera tournament each year by Messrs. A. Jackson, G. Howatson, and C. J. McFadyen. Bright Prospects. Fourteen representative matches, the usual competitions and sundry tournaments had meant the busiest year the association had yet had. and the meeting. with 24 delegates present, had an auspjeious appearance for another successful year. The credit balance was the best yet produced and the prospect for women's hockey was excellent. The applications for affiliation of Inuawai (Okaiawa), Okaiawa and Un l fed (Waitara) clubs were approved. Officers elected were: Patron, Mrs. M. W. Priest (Hawera): president, Mr. H. C. Johnson (Stratford); vicepresidents, Mrs. Perry (Kohuratahi) and Mr. E. Alson (New Plymouth); secretary and treasurer. Miss M. Young (Stratford); delegate to New Zealand Women’s Hockey Association. Miss J. Bacon (Wellington); management committee, Messrs. Johnson. Old (Inglewood), E. Riley ! (Pihama) and Gower (Eltham), and) Mesdames Priest. (Hawera). AT, ! Eagles (New Plymouth), b. Loveridge I (Tariki), M. Elder (Strathmore), and ! Misses Young, Brough (New Plymouth) and G. Bernard (Hawera): ( June 23 tournament committee, Messrs. Johnson, M. W. Priest (Hawera). and Riley. Kaponga club was granted permission to alter its uniform slightly. The Taranaki Hockey Umpires’ Association was granted a donation of | «2/2/-. An inquiry from Whangamomona, asking if matches were to be played on Saturdays, and if three or four rounds were to be played, was referred to the management committee. The season will open on May 1. it was decided. The Ha wera tournament date was selected as June 9. Appreciation of the services of Mrs. Priest, retiring secretary, was expressed by Mr. .Johnson and the meeting voted her an honorarium of £2/2/-.
