A report that the Government had been a£ked to give serious consider. aiion to the revival of an assisted scheme was made at a meeting of the Associated Chambers of Commerce xo.day. The Minister of Immigration advised that the subject would be discussed at the Imperial Conference, but at the present juncture the vernment was not prepared to proceed Vi’itli a policy of migration until the way had been prepared for newcomers by the alleviation of unemployment and other social problems. It was decided that as the matter was one of prime importance it would be pursued with the Government.
